The Boatman

Given the sepia treatment to add a sense of age to the boats and the landscape, this is a shot of Chris Leah, the Founder of the Wooden Canal Boat Society.

Based in Greater Manchester, the WCBS restores historic, wooden narrow boats, which were originally working boats in North and Midlands, and puts them back into the water to give therapeutic, water-borne trips to people with mental health problems.

A colour version of this photograph was published in the Marsh Trust yearbook, when Chris was given an award for his tireless work on the boats.
