Pic of the week

Amazing engineering and architecture
‘Have drawn this one from the vaults for this week’s pic of the week. I find endless fasciation in both the natural and manmade environments. All of our interventions into space to make something, create shelter, solve a problem or lay something down for posterity are creative acts which have aesthetic appeal on some level and can be visualised and captured by artists or photographers, or just by being there and looking with one’s own eyes. And, of course, the way one looks can make something fascinating or banal. This is the Menai bridge, which connects mainland Wales to the island of Anglesey. I have photographed it many times – the first time in the early 80s, before I turned pro – and I still find things in it whenever I get chance to visit. This, however, is a more recent shot.
