June 2013: assorted projects throughout the North West and beyond
Stephen Riley: travelling freelance photographer
Conducted recent photography projects in Saddleworth, Stalybridge, Hyde, Salford, Widnes and Somerset. I'm particularly pleased with architectural photography projects completed at Wade Deacon School in Widnes and Blackfriars Court in Lower Broughton, Salford (see under 'Places'), and product photography of architectural details for hotel in Buxton. I hadn't realised how close the Peak Forest Canal gets to Captain Clark Industrial Estate, until I went to Warble Wharf. People actually live on their narrow boats there, which is interesting, and seems a lovely alternative to the routine. I've also put some earlier images on Facebook for fun: photos of Northern Soul memorabilia (see under 'Products'), for example; also, shots I did earlier of members of a gun club, which I think look pretty interesting - they can be seen in the 'People' section here. As a charity project, I have designed a poster for the Wooden Canal Boat Society. I think supporting the upkeep of these pieces of industrial heritage is a worthwhile thing in its own right. However, the Boat Society also uses its boats to support mental health endeavours: another very worthwhile matter.
